Fourth Economy believes in supporting the next generation of leaders through our internship program. We are looking for creative and driven individuals who want to learn while working directly on real world projects.
We make an effort to assign interns to work on projects that fits with their interests and skill sets. However, because we are a small and dynamic firm, interns are expected to be flexible and have general research and writing skills.
Spring & Summer 2018 Internship Program
Who: Open to graduate students or recent graduates. Area of focus in applied economics, business, human centered design, public policy, project management, planning or marketing preferred.
What: Fourth Economy will assign Research Associates to work on projects that fit with their interest and skill set. For Spring & Summer 2018, we are looking for candidates interested in:
- Redevelopment strategies for small post-industrial communities
- Neighborhood business district development
- Resilience of and climate change impacts on community and economic development
- Non-profit strategic planning
- Public/private partnership models for social impact and investing
In general, research associate tasks include interviewing stakeholders, research, benchmarking, data analysis, preparing presentations, taking meeting notes, and drafting memos. Though research associates will be assigned to help with particular projects, they may be asked to assist with smaller tasks for other projects. Research associates will also be given the opportunity to participate in other meetings or events that match their interests when appropriate. All research associates are expected to write one blog post per month on a relevant topic of their choosing. For more information on the types of work we do please see our project portfolio.
When: Fourth Economy is seeking research associates for Spring 2018 (January – May) to work between 16-24 hours per week and Summer 2081 (June-August) to work up to 40 hours per week. Though we offer flexible schedules, we do demand reliability. We are a small firm, often working on tight deadlines, and need to be able to count on research associates fulfilling the time commitments to which they’ve agreed.
Where: Our office is located in Pittsburgh’s Chateau neighborhood. We serve a national client base so some travel may be required.

Compensation: We offer a competitive wage rate for our interns that is based on experience and ability to contribute.
