Maine Outdoor Brands, is a member-driven alliance of outdoor product makers, experience providers, retailers and organizations invested in strengthening Maine’s $3 billion outdoor recreation economy, by providing collaborative marketing, networking, resource sharing and education in partnership with the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation.

Fourth Economy worked with Maine Outdoor Brands to develop a strategic roadmap for growth and diversification of Maine’s outdoor recreation economy. This roadmap identifies trends, challenges and opportunities and be shaped by industry, university, and state government stakeholders to act as a guiding document for future investment and actions.



Our Approach

Maine’s ultimate goal is a resilient, sustainable, and thriving outdoor recreation economy that offers good paying jobs and an unmatched quality of life.


The roadmap is a tool to achieve that vision, and will act as a guiding plan to support shared goals around economic development, education and workforce training, conservation and stewardship, and public health and wellness. It also increases the awareness and understanding of the different sectors that define Maine’s outdoor recreation economy.
